This Is So Cool Of The Day:
Christopher Barrett and Luke Taylor of Us, a multi-disciplinary design & direction studio got inspired by the SoundCloud waveform of Benga’s song I Will Never Change to create a real-life waveform entirely out of 960 individually cut vinyl records:
When we were asked to pitch on the promo they sent us the track as a ‘SoundCloud’ link, we usually get it sent as an MP3. For the first time we were not just listening to the track we were also watching it. There was something mesmerising about this in its simplicity.

And so Propellerhead just released an iPhone app, a stripped down version of their ever so popular Reason software. Priced at 1 buck, this app promises to give meaning to the rather mundane bus rides.
The interface of the app looks simple and clean, and the sound synthesis is borrowed from it’s massive cousin Kong and Thor (Yes, they love to call their sonic toys with names of mythical creatures). Not entirely sure if you are able to save those recordings or performances though.
I am still scratching my head to figure out whether Figure is an amazing toy or a serious music tool but it looks fun nonetheless.
Erykah Badu. The second artist selected as “Serato’s icon” (Fatboy Slim was/is the first Serato icon artist).
Some subliminal take aways:
1- You become #1 (As a product) by supporting the grass roots
2- You endorse the opinion leaders, the mass will follow
3- You get the “cool” kids to buy/test your product, but don’t be too tragically hip
Congrats Serato! But remember, Native Instruments is catching up real quick…
Another example of a brilliant product partnership. Docomo has teamed up with Evangelion to produce limited edition Evangelion mobile phones which features custom icon sets, A 3D app and a mobile time based game.
Yet this is not the first time for Evangelion.
In another strange cross promotion, Evangelion has worked with Schick to produce Evangelion themed razors and cute mobile merchandise.
Does this only happen in Japan? or does this only happen in Japan?
